We have a lovely long weekend ahead of us, which means plenty of time to get out and kick back over the Easter break!
As always, we are taking a look at what’s going on in some of our Fillit spaces. There’s plenty of exciting things happening, so you won’t be stuck for choice :)
These guys are known for planning a great shindig, and this Easter is no different.
After the success that was their ‘Sober St Patrick’s Day,’ they’ve decided to do it again. On Friday The Clockwork Door are inviting you for another alcohol-free evening. There will be acoustic music, spoken word, slam poetry, board games, video games, movie screenings and not to mention a comfy chill-out room. Seeing as it’s an extra special occasion, The ALT Community will be running a day long Dessert Party in the kitchen. Throughout the event there will be a wide selection of baked goods, attendees are also required to bring their own baked treats for the occasion. So if you want to give the drink a break for a bit, this is sure to be a fun packed event.
If you’re not willing to part with alcohol for the weekend, don’t worry The Church Bar are holding an Easter Fest with popular band The Unusual Suspects. The band are known as one of Ireland’s top touring bands, with hundreds of gigs under their belts, both home and abroad. The weekend’s theme is everything 80s, with lots of tribute acts and the best tunes from across the decade. So get your old glad rags out and head a long in your best spandex, headbands, leg warmers and sunnies! Admission is free and doors are from 10pm. For more info pop over to the Facebook event.
Comic & Sci Fi enthusiasts will love this one. The Bernard Shaw see’s the return of one of Dublins much loved flea markets. High street vendors Dublin City Comics & Collectibles will be there, as well as private collectors, artists and local creators. The blue bus will be on hand serving food as always. There's loads going on down in Street 66 over Easter Weekend. As we all know Friday is a no go for alcohol, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t have fun! Street 66 is open from 8am for music, coffee and conversation. Later on in the evening they will be showing a movie and providing great cakes and sambos. What more could you want?! On Saturday DJ Gerry will be spinning all the electro 70’s 80’s and 90’s tunes till late and there will be plenty of great cocktails and gins to make up for the dry Friday!
Musician Tiz McNamara plays Whelan’s on Easter Saturday. Tiz is playing a full band show as part of his Irish tour to promote his upcoming release ‘Days Like These’. His music has been streamed more than 1.3 million times on Spotify! The cork native has caused quite a stir on the international folk scene. He has spent the past two years touring Ireland and the UK and more recently Europe. In the past Tiz has supported the likes of James Bay as well as Frances and Australian folk band Oh Pep!
