Although it might seem like an impossible task, hosting an event on a modest budget is doable. In fact, with a bit of forward planning and some creativity, you’ve got some real potential to host a truly unforgettable event. Read on for our top tips to throw the perfect low-budget event.

Plan your budget in advance, and stick to it

Creating a budget allows you to refer back and ensure that you are staying on track in terms of your spending. You will be much more aware of exactly where your money is going, and most importantly, you will know when to stop spending.

Don’t waste money on swag that your guests don’t want

For the most part, goodie bags are a big waste of time and money, and should be one of the first things you cut out of your budget. The large majority of your guests won’t miss them.

Learn to negotiate/haggle

Learning to negotiate a price is an invaluable skill, not to mention if could save you a fortune. Don’t be afraid to try it, especially if you think the asking price is too expensive. Give it a try, you've nothing to lose and your pocket will thank you for it.

Take advantage of social media as a publicity tool

Social Media is a great and cheap way of publicising your event. It is worth investing a bit in paid Facebook ads but organic content can also be very effective.  It’s free and provides you with a platform with a huge potential reach. In addition, sending out a general email to spread the word is a great idea. An email goes directly to the person intended and will be read when it’s most convenient, and again, it’s free.

Choose your location carefully

Where you choose to host your event is critical, and will likely be the most expensive part of the event. Finding the perfect venue is a difficult task on its own, without the added complications of a limited budget, so begin searching as soon as you can. Our top tip here is to find out if off-season dates could work for your event. If you’re lucky, you could get a really great bargain for a venue by choosing to have your event at a quieter time of the year.
